Eyelash Serum… Truth Bombs!
A lot of us are in the search for longer, thicker eyelashes. “Hello, my name is Madison. I am a Lash Addict.” Whether it’s the “Natural” look, the “Glam” look and or even the “Classic” look…whatever our flavor, it eventually leads us to consider eyelash extensions and or Eyelash Serums, which are products that claim to cause the body to naturally produce stronger, healthier lashes. It is my opinion, that when wearing eyelash extensions, an Eyelash Serum should always be used in conjunction.
Some of these products work, some don’t. However, as the millions of repeat customers & reviews can attest there something to this trend.
But how, exactly, do they work?
There are three distinct phases of lash growth: the anagen, catagen, and telogen phases. All are important for healthy growth, we’ll be concerned primarily with the anagen phase.
The anagen phase is the time when lashes actively grow, and can last anywhere from 30 to 45 days. Like any young organism, proper sustenance is required for healthy growth, and that’s where the Eyelash Serums enter the picture for us.
Eyelash Serums, then, are an important aspect of a healthy beauty regimen. When you are supplying your hair with the ingredients it needs to reach its full potential, you’ll have the flirty most fabulous lashes of your life. These are YOUR lashes, at their best.
Q. What is an Eyelash Serum & What does it do??
An Eyelash serum is a concentrated liquid that helps grow naturally stronger thicker, fuller lashes by creating a biological
domino effect in your body at a cellular level. As we vintage (my chosen positive vernacular for aging) our natural Keratin
production decreases like most things…Keratin is essential for strong hair, whether it’s lashes, scalp hair or eyebrows. Keratin is
a natural body process and by using something that stimulates it’s production, we increase our chances for longer, stronger, thicker lashes!
Q. Do All Eyelash Serums Work?
Unfortunately, no. All Eyelash Serums do not all work and they do not all work with Eyelash Extensions. Additionally, there is not
one size fits all. We all may have different experiences with the same serum. (IE: the younger we are, the better they work because the keratin production is still in full swing) The more vintage we are, the results are often not AS lush & thick, as someone in their 20’s. When deciding on using an Eyelash Serum, be sure to do your due diligence & ask a professional licensed lash stylist for some
suggested products. You are spending good money, you want to ensure you get one that is compatible with extensions and delivers
on it’s promise.
Q. What is the key ingredient?
The main ingredient is a naturally occurring amino acid chain in our bodies, called Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17 or (MP-17).
This is the ingredient that has been shown to assist in creating the biological domino effect of longer, thicker, lush lashes.
Q. Are there side effects? Is it safe?
As with anything in life, there are definitely Pro’s & Con’s. Some enhancers contain ingredients called prostaglandins, which can cause unwanted & sometimes permanent side effects. These side effects can include skin discoloration, discoloration of the iris (the colored part of your eye), and unwanted hair growth.
Check the label when shopping & make sure that any Eyelash Serum you purchase is free of prostaglandins.
Additionally, when applying your chosen Eyelash Serum, do so carefully. If it gets in your eyes, it will burn and sting, causing momentary irritation.
Q: How do I apply an Eyelash Serum?
Eyelash Serums include an applicator that you use to apply the serum. You apply to the base of the upper eyelid, once or twice a day. It’s a process that’s very similar to applying eyeliner, it’s usually a clear liquid & painless. Again, avoid getting these products in your eyes.
Q: How fast does it work?
Eyelash serums affect the growth of new lashes, so, you usually have to wait for these improved lashes to grow in. This is a process that can take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks for full results, although you may see improvement in as little as 2 weeks….it could also take a bit longer, as it will also prompt a lash cycle ….
Q: How can I tell if it’s working?
I recommend taking a picture before you start an Eyelash Serum, then update the pictures every other week. This should give you a clear idea of the changes. Please remember that it’s not an “instant” thing. We have become such an instant gratification society (me included) it may take up to six-twelve weeks for full results. We all respond differently; some faster than others and vice versa.
Q: Do I need a prescription?
Some Eyelash Serums are available by prescription only. There have been so many advances in Eyelash Serum technology lately, that they have created over-the-counter options that can offer comparable results, at a fraction of the cost of prescription choices.
Q: How much do Eyelash Serums cost?
The cost of Eyelash Serums varies a lot, with many costing upwards of $200 per tube. However, there are some excellent options currently available for less than $80 for a supply that will last a few months.
Q: What happens if I stop using it? Is it a permanent thing?
Due to the short life span of eyelashes, no Eyelash Serum products can offer “permanent” improvement. If you want to keep your sexy new lashes, daily use of an Eyelash Serum is recommended. If you stop using your Eyelash Serum, your eyelashes will gradually return to their normal state.
Q: Which Eyelash Serum is the BEST to use?
Different people will find different results with different products. Experiment and see which product works best for you.
